How Much Does Parking at Midway Airport Really Cost?
Parking is the one travel cost people reliably underestimate. You book the flight, you book the hotel, and then you spend a week away and come home to a parking charge that costs more than your checked bags did.
So here is the honest math for Chicago Midway.
On-airport parking
Midway's economy and garage parking is convenient, and you pay for that convenience. Daily rates in the garage generally land in the $30 to $40 per day range depending on which level and lot you use.
For a quick overnight trip, that is fine. For anything longer, it compounds fast.
Off-site parking
Off-site lots sit a few minutes from the terminal and run their own shuttles. Our rates start at $9.95 per day, with the exact price depending on your dates and availability.
What a week actually costs
Seven days, rounded, using typical rates:
- On-airport garage at $35/day: about $245
- Off-site self-park at $10/day: about $70
- Off-site valet at a premium rate: still well under half the garage
The service difference is not what most people expect either. Off-site, someone helps with your luggage and your car is waiting when you land. In the garage, you are dragging a suitcase across a cold deck at 11 p.m. looking for level four.
Where the hidden costs hide
Two places, mostly.
Third-party booking fees. Sites like SpotHero and similar resellers do not own the lots. They resell inventory and add a service fee on top. You often end up paying more than the lot's own direct rate for the same space — and when you need to change your dates, you are negotiating with a middleman instead of the people holding your keys.
Overstay charges. Almost every lot, ours included, charges a different rate for days beyond what you reserved. Flights get delayed and trips get extended; that is normal. Just know the number in advance, and call the lot directly if your plans change so it can be handled cleanly.
What to check before you book
- Is the shuttle free, and does it run 24 hours? Some off-site lots stop running overnight, which is a problem if your flight lands at 1 a.m.
- How far is the lot from the terminal? Under five minutes is normal near Midway. Fifteen is not.
- Is the lot fenced, lit and staffed around the clock?
- Is a credit card required to hold the reservation? With us it is not.
- Are you booking with the lot, or with a reseller?
